Word Frequency Counter

Paste any text to see which words appear most often. Useful for checking keyword repetition in an article, analysing a transcript, or studying vocabulary.

How to use the word frequency counter

  1. Paste your text. For subtitles, convert them with SRT to TXT first so timestamps are not counted.
  2. Choose whether to ignore stop words and set a minimum word length.
  3. Click Count words. The table shows the top words; the box below holds the full list as CSV.

How words are counted

Text is lowercased, so Cat and cat count as one word. A word is a run of letters or digits in any language; apostrophes inside a word are kept, so don't stays one word. Punctuation is ignored. The percentage is the word's count divided by all counted words.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with languages other than English?

Yes for languages that separate words with spaces. Languages written without spaces, such as Chinese or Japanese, are counted by runs of characters, which is not a true word split.

What are stop words?

Very common function words like the, and, of and to. Hiding them makes meaningful words easier to see.

Is my text stored?

No. Counting happens in your browser only.
